A Guide To Using the Subway in South Korea
Using the South Korea Subway
- Subway stations are easily identifiable with color-coded signs in both Korean and English, and each exit is numbered.
- If you don’t have a Tmoney transit card, you can purchase a single-journey ticket from ticket vending machines inside the station. A 500 KRW deposit is required, which you’ll receive back when you return the card upon reaching your destination.
- Upon passing through the turnstile, simply hover your card over the Tmoney scanner.
- Line transfers occur within the station. Follow the color-coded signs to find your desired line.
- Upon reaching your destination, place your card over the Tmoney scanner at the turnstile. If you used a single-journey ticket, reclaim your 500 won deposit by returning the card at any “Deposit Refund Device.”
- If your Tmoney card or single-journey ticket doesn’t have enough funds, you can add money using the fare adjustment machines near the turnstiles.”
